Engineer the next generation of fish health monitoring
Build hardware that works underwater, in the real world, every single day.

At OptoScale, we help fish farmers understand what’s really happening in the pen. We build underwater camera systems, winches and related hardware, together with software and AI that turn images and data into insight farmers can act on. Our systems are used every day at fish farms globally, and we are now looking for a Mechanical Engineer to help take this technology to the next level.
The role
As a Mechanical Engineer at OptoScale, you will work across the entire development process, from early concepts to equipment in the water. You will:
- Work on concepts and design for underwater cameras, winches and related equipment
- Build and improve prototypes
- Test solutions in the lab and out in the field
- Help prepare products for production and service
You’ll join a small but brilliant engineering team with deep experience in our camera systems. Together, you make sure our solutions are robust, service-friendly and ready for real conditions at sea.
Some days you’ll work with 3D modelling and drawings in CAD. Other days you’ll be in the workshop or on site, building, testing and improving. In practice, you will design and develop mechanical solutions for underwater cameras and winches, test prototypes both in the lab and at farming sites, and contribute to getting products ready for production.

Your skills and experience
You have a solid technical foundation and a genuine interest in how things are built, tested and improved. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering fits the role well, but a technical college education combined with relevant experience is just as valuable.
Experience from areas such as robotics, underwater systems, optics, materials technology, micro-mechanics/production, product development or industrial design will be useful.
We imagine you bring most of the following:
- CAD experience – you’re comfortable working with 3D modelling and drawings (we use SolidWorks)
- Practical skills – you enjoy hands-on work and know your way around tools and prototypes
- Clear communication – you speak and write English well
- Relevant exposure – experience with underwater equipment, aquaculture/marine operations or numeric simulations is an advantage, but not required
Both newly graduated and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.
