UX Designer – Turn complex aquaculture data into clarity for a global platform
Shape intuitive workflows in a domain where small shifts make a big difference.

OptoScale is a growing technology company within aquaculture, with customers around the world – from Northern Norway to Southern Chile. Our web portal provides new insights into fish growth and development, helping farmers make smarter, data-driven decisions.
We are now looking for a skilled UX Designer to take responsibility for design and user experience while our current designer is on parental leave. In this role, you will work closely with customers and product development, contribute to product-led UX, and influence how our solutions evolve. This is a 1-year temporary position with a strong opportunity to transition into a permanent role as we continue to expand our web portal.
We review applications on a rolling basis and encourage early applications, as candidates are invited to interviews continuously.

About the role
As a UX Designer at OptoScale, you shape an intuitive, efficient and visually consistent web portal. You’ll be working with Product Managers, the Product Owner and our software team, bringing insights from user feedback, structured input and real usage data. The role contributes to continuous discovery and supports evidence-based design decisions.
You hold responsibility for the end-to-end experience of the web portal and translate customer needs and actual user behaviour into clear, testable design improvements together with the product and development teams.
In practice, this includes:
- creating sketches, prototypes, and concepts in Figma for testing with customers and development
- gathering, structuring, and assessing customer input together with the product team
- planning and running short, focused customer sessions to validate designs and collect feedback
- using Hotjar and real user behaviour to uncover improvement opportunities
-
ensuring high usability and visual alignment with OptoScale’s visual identity
- collaborating closely with developers to ensure solutions are feasible and clearly specified
- evolving and maintaining the design system and brand elements in the web portal

Who we are looking for
Driven by a deep understanding of user needs, you focus on improving digital solutions using real data. Iterative development, close customer dialogue and fast-paced decision-making are natural parts of how you work, and you move easily between hands-on design and collaboration with product and engineering.
To succeed in the role, you should bring:
- experience with UX design for web products or complex digital solutions
- strong proficiency in Figma
- the ability to understand user needs and turn them into clear design solutions
- experience with prototyping and iterative testing
- the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in parallel
- strong communication and collaboration skills
- fluency in Norwegian and English, both written and spoken
It’s also an advantage (not a requirement) if you bring:
- relevant education in UX or digital design
- experience designing B2B or data-intensive solutions
- familiarity with user research methods, user testing or insight work
- experience facilitating workshops or concept development
- interest in aquaculture and biological data
You don’t need to match every point — but the “should bring” profile should feel familiar to your background and experience.

Why OptoScale
At OptoScale, you will have a key role with real influence across our products. You will collaborate with specialists in biology, technology and product development, and you will work closely with customers in an industry that is undergoing rapid digital transformation.
You will get:
- a key role with meaningful influence across products
- close collaboration with specialists in biology, technology and product development
- frequent customer interaction and insight into an important and evolving industry
- a small, hands-on team where design plays a central role
- a fast-paced environment with flexibility and strong growth opportunities
There is a strong opportunity for extension after the temporary position — we are growing and have ambitious plans for our web portal.
Application process
We are committed to fair and inclusive recruitment and encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply. To ensure an unbiased process, applications and CVs are reviewed in anonymous mode, without names or personal details. Candidates who align well with the role will be invited to complete skills and personality assessments, which help us ensure the best fit for both you and our team. As part of our hiring process, we may conduct background checks to maintain the integrity of our company.
